Taking the Nith presents a top night of comedy talent from Edinburgh’s infamous Stand Comedy club.
The venue is Upstairs at Broon’s Bar, English Street, Dumfries. Tuesday October 5th, doors 7.30; show 8.30pm.
Top of the bill is Validmir McTavish (alter-ego of comedian Paul Sneddon). Paul has appeared on a number of popular TV and radio shows. These include The Empire Laughs Back (BBC1), the football game show We’re On Our Way To Wembley (ITV) and ” and Swots (BBC Radio Scotland).
Paul has been described as ‘Gleefully indulgent, highly appealing’ by The Guardian and ‘Affable and abrasive…nothing short of superb’ by The Scotsman. Even the acerbic Frankie Boyle describes him as ‘brilliant’.
Also appearing are renowned duo: Stu and Gary (Gary Dobson and Stuart Murphy), Scotland’s only fully professional improv troupe. Two of the circuits most experienced, exciting and brilliant duos. They have won plaudits wherever they have appeared: ‘a riotous, madcap anything-may-happen burst of chaos’ Scotsman and ‘one of Fringe comedy’s best kept secrets’ Scotsman. They are worth the price of admission alone.
Also appearing is the relative newcomer, with a bright future, the American stand-up Sarah Cassidy. Sarah started her comedy career when she appeared in a Taking the Nith open mic slot as a postgraduate student at the University of Glasgow: Dumfries. Her reputation has quickly flourished as she has since gone on to become a regular on the Edinburgh and Glasgow comedy circuit, and is invited to perform at some of London’s top comedy clubs.
Tickets are £7 or £4 (Glasgow University: Dumfries and UWS: Dumfries students)
- Tickets are available from Broons, English Street, Dumfries; CUCSA, Crichton Campus, Dumfries or the General Office, Rutherford McCowan Building, Crichton Campus, Dumfries.
